This article about survivors looking for their lost memories in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami prompted my post today.

Growing up I relished pulling out my mothers photo albums and looking through the pictures inside. There were snap shots of hunting trips and sports events. Pictures of the farm and from a trip we once took to Yellowstone and Canada. There were some from my parents wedding and a few of our grandparents and great grandparents.  Those albums and the pictures bound inside are a record of our families history. Each image is a little peek at what life was like at that moment in time.  They are a look at where I came from and the people who helped make me who I am.

I love pictures. I love the technical aspect and art of creating pictures. Yes, I tend to get a little nerdy about things exposure, lighting and what “technical” things went into make in a picture. More than that though, I love the stories they tell. My family pictures mean the world to me. I’m sure many of you feel the same way. I am a photographer because I want to provide others with that same connection to their past and to their life story. Every session, wedding or event that I cover I seek to tell my clients story and deliver a set of images that they will treasure. Pictures to help tell their family story. Pictures to bring back smiles and memories of their loved ones.

My heart goes out to those who have suffered in natural disasters over the past few years and lost their homes, loved ones and so many pictures. I hope this also remind all of us to be thankful everyday for our lives, for our loved ones, and for pictures of these things that mean so much.
